What are vinyl gloves?

Vinyl Gloves are an inexpensive glove primarily used in the hospitality industry, they’ve been used in the past for medical use but this field predominantly uses latex or more increasingly nitrite

materials as they offer a more sensitive feel and better puncture resistance.
Vinyl gloves are a perfect fit for the hospitality industry as they are not only cheap, but easy to put on and off, which in a busy setting like a café is a must.

Why we do we use vinyl gloves in the hospitality industry?

A common misconception about the need for gloves in the hospitality industry is to protect our hands getting dirty from touching food items, but in reality, gloves are used to protect the food from our hands. We hold millions of micro-organisms called bacteria on the palms of our hands, and using gloves is intended to stop them moving to the food. As soon as you touch your gloves against objects such as money, cash register’s or even the handle of a fridge, the become contaminated and should be replaced.
A good way to save money and avoid using high quantities of gloves is to use one hand for touching non-food items and then have the other hand in a glove dedicated to only touching the food. It may seem difficult at first but it’s a great skill for anyone who comes in contact with food.

 Powdered Vs Powder Free

The powder is used in the production of the gloves is your run of the mill corn starch, same used in cooking. The corn starch is used as a lubricant when producing the gloves and allows a speedier production time, this is the reason the lightly powdered gloves are cheaper.
People with sensitive skin sometimes can get a rash from using the gloves with powder, if this is the case try using powder free. If the rash persist this may be because the gloves are not been changed regular. Vinyl is an excellent barrier for liquids and because of this your hands dont breath very well. So if you find this happening try changing gloves and washing your hands in between.
Unlike latex vinyl gloves don’t cause allergic reaction, its just the way they are used.

Some people have issues with gloves, but in reality when used correctly they are a god send. Nobody likes a lawsuit.
